Individuals with MEMS qualification will gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively manage a comprehensive emergency management program and will achieve operational understanding of all basic tenets of emergency management, including mitigation, preparedness, emergency response, and recovery.

 Step by Step Guide for MEMS Certification

 1. Go to the State Guard Association of the United States website

and join SGAUS. You MUST be a member in good standing with SGAUS to

enroll and complete the MEMS Academy. All MEMS information is on this

site.

3. Read the MEMS Academy Program Overview -

4. Read the MEMS Academy Student Handbook -

5. Fill out and print the MEMS Academy Application -

6. Mail the application to:

7. Complete the following FEMA EMI ISP Courses:

8. Upon satisfactorily completing the above courses have an official FEMA

EMI ISP Transcript mailed to:

DO NOT forward the emails that say you have completed the class.

DO NOT mail the individual class certificates. ONLY an official

transcript mailed to me from FEMA meets the requirement.

9. After receipt of your official transcript it will be evaluated. You may be required to complete a narrative of one of the courses.

 If requested use the following requirements:

No less than 1 page

No greater than 10 pt font

Single Spaced

Chapter 1 - Overview of the course

Chapter 2 - What you learned from the course

Chapter 3 - How you will use this course in the State Guard to educate

your unit

Chapter 4 - How you will use this course on an actual deployment

 

10. You must decide on a Basic Practicum. The Practicum MUST be approved

by CPT Mark Ottens and your CO must approve the practicum PRIOR to

beginning the practicum.

 See Numbers 8 & 9 in the MEMS Student Handbook under Basic MEMS

Qualification (Pages 6 & 7) for information on the practicum and the

narrative requirements.

 11. Once you have completed all of your requirements and CPT Ottens has received and approved them your information will be sent to the MEMS State

Academy Director who will then mail you your certificate of completion.

 

 12. Upon receipt of the MEMS certificate take a copy to your S1 for your

file. You are then authorized to wear the MEMS badge.
