Operation Lone Star 2007 28 Jul to 4 Aug 2007 Laredo, Rio Grand City, and Zapata The Corpus Christi Company deployed 4 members in support of the second week of OLS-2007. All members were assigned to the Laredo MIRT located at Laredo Civic Center downtown. Over 5200 patients received care during its 5 days of operation. Operation lone star was a joint operation involving the Texas State Guard, Texas Army National Guard, Department of Health Services, Laredo and United Independent School Districts, local civic and charitable organizations, and local corporate sponsors. The purpose of OLS-2007 was to provide basic health care, preventive care, and health education to an underserved border residents.
2LT Russell Stowers served as the Officer in Charge of the registration process. He ensured that all patients were correctly registered and facilitated the entry to the medical care process. For his superior leadership abilities he was awarded the Command Sergeant Major’s coin for the 36th Infantry Division. SGT Larry Norotsky was assigned as the MIRT S-2 Officer. He was responsible for the overall security and safety of the event. He conducted regular threat assessments of the area of operation. He monitored changing weather conditions and ensured that proper protection was provided to staff and patients. SGT Norotsky responded to all emergencies that arose as a representative of the Command Leadership Team. For his outstanding initiative he was awarded the Texas State Meritorious Service Award.
SGT Teresa Hernandez worked in the registration area assisting patients. Her fluent mastery of the Spanish language was a essential part of making the process go smoothly.
SGT Chris Nelson was assigned to the vital signs area and also assisted in the registration process. He initially screened patients and directed them to more definitive case and services.
